Evergreen Line is one of the world's top 5 container shipping companies, operating over 200 vessels on major trade lanes including Asia-Europe, Transpacific, and intra-Asia. Evergreen is best known internationally for the Ever Given — the vessel that blocked the Suez Canal in 2021 for six days. This guide explains how to track any Evergreen shipment from container number, bill of lading, or booking reference.
Evergreen Container Number Format
Evergreen containers use two main owner codes: EISU and EMCU, each followed by 7 digits (e.g. EISU1234567 or EMCU7654321). These follow the ISO 6346 standard — 4 letters identifying the owner, followed by a 6-digit serial number and a check digit. If you see a container number starting with EISU or EMCU on your shipping documents, it is an Evergreen container.
Container Number vs Bill of Lading vs Booking Reference
The container number (EISU/EMCU + 7 digits) identifies the physical steel box. The bill of lading (B/L) is the legal shipping document issued by Evergreen for your cargo — it may cover one or more containers. The booking reference is issued when you reserve space on an Evergreen vessel, before the ship departs. You can track using any of these three reference types on Trackora.
How to Track Evergreen on Trackora
Select Sea Freight mode on Trackora, choose Evergreen, and enter your container number, B/L, or booking reference. For container numbers, Trackora auto-detects Evergreen from the EISU or EMCU prefix. Trackora generates a pre-filled direct link to Evergreen's official tracking portal, which shows live vessel position, port events, and estimated arrival — the same data Evergreen's own team uses.
Key Evergreen Tracking Events Explained
"Gate in full" — your loaded container entered the origin terminal. "Loaded on vessel" — the container was physically loaded onto the ship. "Vessel departed" — the ship left the origin port. "Transshipment" — the container was transferred to another vessel at an intermediate port (common on Asia-Europe routes via Singapore or Port Said). "Vessel arrived" — the ship reached the destination port. "Discharged" — the container was unloaded from the vessel. "Gate out" — the container left the terminal for delivery.
Evergreen Trade Lanes and Transit Times
Evergreen's main trade lanes: Asia to Europe (approximately 25–30 days via Suez Canal), Asia to US West Coast (approximately 14–18 days), Asia to US East Coast (approximately 25–30 days via Panama Canal), intra-Asia (3–10 days depending on ports). Transit times vary based on the specific route, number of transshipments, and port congestion at origin and destination.
